Life Stuff

Hazel is back from the nice vet, and having some antibiotic goop for her ears. I think they were more itchy than painful. She seems relieved to have them treated. One thing not so good. Hazel's diet is not proceeding very well at all. I really thought she was thinner-- but she had only lost 3 ounces! She had obviously been sneaking out in dead of night to eat Lyra's cat food!

So this meant we had to have a new bookcase.

Let me explain. We have a little table in our hall where we feed Yodel It is right next to the bookcase, which was of course stuffed with books including the top. Lyra, being little, needs to eat more than twice a day-- she needs food she can go to anytime. So we had been feeding her on the floor. But that can't go on, because the dog is too fat.  So we moved Yodel to the top of the bookcase, he can hop there. She moved up to the table where he had been, she can scramble up there. That way Hazel, who eats on the floor near the cat  table, cannot get into the cat food. Cats learned their new stations by the second time around. Hazel is full of despair. But I had to move 30 books or so off the top of my bookcase. I put hem on the rack where I usually keep towels. Tee-da, new bookcase!  So where do towels go? Sea-chest maybe...

I am sadly behind in Christmas action. Some things are not even mailed off yet. It is not lack of love-- it is lack of brain or something. I feel as if I somehow lost the whole middle out of December.

Tomorrow I will be in my kitchen. I have consented, foolishly to go to MIL's for the day. So I am damn well bringing cookies. Husband said he wanted me to go, because when I am not there she turns her focus on him! He looked so miserable I agreed-- also, when he went for Thanksgiving the kids defected, and stayed at home with me! He has arranged for us to get there on the evening of the 24th, and leave midday on the 25th. He pointed out that we could spend much of the time asleep. (Merry Christmas)

At least Hazel will have fun. She likes the dog there.  And we will do the between us stuff here before we leave. That will be fun. I have got that nailed down at least. Kids and husband should be pleased.

I will be thinking of all of you. Hope you have the best week ever, with friends, an people who know and love you,  and sleep, and good food, and the weather you like best.

i will be here and there-- I'm not going anywhere really. but I wanted to say this before I forgot.

LOL Sounds funny how you live :) Poor Hazel, although it's better for her, I suppose :) Pictures!!! Hopefully one of your many christmas presents will be a brand-new sea chest for your towels. *g*
Thanks for your kind wishes. Lots of love back to you and your family. I asked for snow at least on the 25th/26th... but it's raining. Best weather to read and relax.

Take care and a happy new year!!!

Yes-- it is funny, how i live. Some days it seems that all I do is move things form one place to another! Like that Monty Python skit about 'putting thinks on other things.' Hee.

And reading weather is very good. Although any weather can be reading weather, i find.

I am very impressed with your feeding arrangements! How very inventive of you :) I'm glad Hazel's ears are feeling better but I can just imagine her woe at being made to diet.

I hope your trip to MiL's won't be too trying. You have my sympathies, I am rubbish at family events.

We will be spending the day at home. Partner is not working this year for the first time ever. He usually works night shift on Christmas eve. It will be nice to have him home to play Santa. Especially as I had to sit up till three in the morning last year waiting for over excited daughter to fall asleep so I could sneak into her room to fill her stocking! I'm glad he will be here this year as I am stupidly tired.

While I am here, I have been meaning to mail you since mid week to say that your goat has been purchased and a card and a little treat will be winging their way across the pond to you. Not sure when they will arrive and I suspect they will not arrive together but I hope they find their way to you sooner rather than later :)

I will be thinking of all of you.
And rest assured that we will be thinking of you too :)

How wonderful that the three of you get to be together.

And how good of him to work Christmas eve all those years. I bet his work-mates were grateful. (Not to mention anyone who fetched up at hospital.)

I am not surprised you are tired. Your work situation sounds really draining. I hope you get a chance to put your feet up this week, and read for fun, or whatever.

I wish you fortitude and lots of distracting thoughts while you deal with your unpleasant social obligations. I'm wretched at dealing with people I dislike, and have to take refuge in daydreaming floorplans, kitchen remodels, and custom furniture. It might make me look glazed over, but it's better than paying too much attention and accidentally saying what I really think. May you have pleasant daydreams of Elizabethan poets and pretty sailor boys to comfort you over Christmas.

Good advice. Daydreams help a lot. Telling myself that I can put up with most things for 24 hours.

She gives me hives, I am not even kidding. i come home from her house with my hands bleeding from scratching.

I will post a report when it is over.

Poor Hazel, I remember when I was a kid and our dog was put on a diet. She escaped from the house and was found happily munching away in the garbage bins!

Oh yes. We have to watch Hazel very carefully, or she will eat things she finds on the street.

We put Agatha's bowl on the bathroom sink's countertop, and Rocky's high on a bookshelf, bacause of the dogs. As for their being able to eat from their feline bowl when they feel like it, Rocky will eat from whatever cat dish he knows is around so we have to put Agatha's away. That's ok because she kills rodents when we let her out.
