When did you love them

I am thinking about the ways that we make up people in our writing. Even when we are writing fan-fic, we make it our own, don't we? I think we have to love someone to write them. Even if they are 'bad' people-- we have to love them.

What so you all think? Have you ever written a person you do not love? Have you ever gotten a little piece of a character, and suddenly known them entirely form one little thing? (Like knowing what heir shoes are like, or what they like to eat?)

Have you ever struggled when someone would not become real for you? What helped?
