My little girl, in the dress.
Her date the girl in the suit. ("We both like girls mom, but not each other that way, I mean we're best friends, it would be weird.")

One thing I did not know, going into this motherhood gig, half a life ago, was how you could come to love the ones that are not your own. Daughter's friend has been there, through it all, through seizures, and break- ups, and two different schools, and two moves, sunshine and rain, and chicken sandwiches. I am so grateful for that loyalty.

'Turn around and your two, turn around and you are four--
Turn around and you are a young girl
Going out of the door...'

There they go, growing up, becoming adults.
