Nice article on bats (For Halloween)

More here than I knew about bats.I did once see them on their way to work. I had a canoe, and was able to paddle under a particular bride where they slept-- thousands of them. I could hear them squeaking, and there was an overwhelming mouse urine smell. Then, just at sundown they came out-- thousands of them. Just like in that picture.  It was amazing. Wonderous little critters.

I wonder if they get up to those things in my loft? Alas, ours will have gone off somewhere nice and cold for the winter.

Bats are beautiful animals. There seem to be more around lately here where I live, I saw lots of them this summer.

Our cat used to catch bats - we don't know how. My parents once spent half the night chasing five or six bats around the living room. We never knew how that happened, whether the bats had flown into the house or whether the cat had caught them, carried them inside and released them to have some more fun with them (we wouldn't put it past him). He also left a dead bat in my bedroom one night - a tiny little black fluffy thing.

And this is one of the cutest things I've ever seen:

We were in Austin for a week this summer, only a short walk from that bridge. Just couldn't work up any interest to go watch the bats.

We occasionally had a bat get inside our cottage at night and I remember hiding under tha blankets while my father tried to stun them with a broom, long enought to get them outside where they belonged!!

VERY interesting article, esp. the sexy details!!

Nice to know that they have such fun. They seem to be very social friendly little creatures.
