Rather discouraged

Do you ever have a day when writing seems like trying to mine rocks with your face? Or push a rock a tree? If  I don't write it, I won't find out what happens. That ought to be incentive right?

Does this make sense outside my skull?

talk to me about it - I can manage about 5 sentences at the moment but I know where it's going if only the Muse would stop playing hide and seek

Yes, that makes perfect sense, though I don't have rocks, I have moths. Sometimes writing is like trying to catch moths. The words scatter about, slip through my brain and refuse to be pinned down. At times like this, writing just doesn't work, the word-moths flit away. Other times they are perfectly well behaved and settle down on the page exactly where I want them. It sounds like your rocks are just as unpredictable as my moths!

I imagine moths are as frustrating, if more pretty. (Luna moths are my favorite. I have seen a few, they are otherworldly.) But they just do what they choose. You cannot herd them, or bribe them, or force them. Like rocks.

The word-moths are frustrating little blighters. The more you try to chase them they harder they are to catch, and if you grasp them too tightly they just crumble to dust. Today they were behaving though, so I got part of a work paper written and a bit of a chapter of our book.

Luna moths are amazing. I still can't quite believe they are real. I would love to see one. The closest thing we have here are the emerald moths, they are much smaller though. I have only seen one once, it was on the windscreen of our van and it was just beautiful. I caught it when we stopped and it took off into the trees.

Yes, yes, yes, and yes.

(Some days, three-letter words are the best I can do.)

Oh it does. I did hardly any writing yesterday and just felt out of sorts afterwards. But the words wouldn't come, the swines. (And yes, you can't find out until you write it!)

I had anew idea last night. May try that. I would not wish this feeling on anyone-- but feels stupid good to know I am not the only one. For me the weekends are not the best time anyway. Today should be more serene.

I get 'sound bites' in my head. I hear a character say something and that starts me off. the trouble is that the ideas don't always come along when I can write them out.
Writers block is something you just have to work your way through - I think I'll buy a butterfly net!
