Scrounging for breakfast, open my fridge, (super full just went shopping for family of four,) and fall to thinking-- what would Horatio and Archie want to eat from it? What would they even recognize?

Not hummus. Lemons, yes. Milk, yes, although the plastic jug would be new. Leftover sushi would not appeal to them. Does not appeal to me either actually, better throw it out... Not breakfast cereal. Cheese, lettuce, eggs, ok. Scottish breakfast tea thinks itself very fancy. Archie might be amused by that. (What did 18th century Scots eat for breakfast? Depended on who they were,I suppose.)

Anyway, would love to hear what you guys think.

I like it sweet too. Butter and brown sugar. Yum!

Coincidentally having a bowl of oatmeal as I read this. Steel cut, rather than the more common rolled. So much better! We add a little butter, honey and cinnamon to it.

I have terrible luck with steel cut oats. I have to do rolled. Don't know why steel cut will not behave for me.

Too bad! I think the steel cut are so much better tasting. Perhaps it's the texture. Can't say there's a secret to it. We bought them for the first time a couple of years ago, followed package directions and didn't seem to have a problem.

Steel cut takes too long for me. Old fashioned rolled, 3 minutes in the microwave, butter and either sugar-in-the-raw or grade B maple syrup!
