Dog Repair

To vet today. My 70 lb dog has torn her ACL. Needs surgery.

She is quite lame, and feeling sad.

We have the option of two differing surgeries. The less expensive and invasive one is the one the vet seems to lean toward. It will still be about 1500 $.

has anyone out there gone through this with a dog? How was recovery? What was outcome?

We will scrape up money, but I am feeling sort of daunted. Dog is too.

(Lots of talk about her stifle. Didn't know dog even had a stifle. I thought that was just horses....)

Am also trying to write, not going easily.

On the upside, I am so loving the new Hornblower fictions! The more the better!

Do not have a dog, but a fish, though can I still give your dog a virtual hug for being brave?

Oh I am sure she would love a hug! She is a very sweet girl. Fish are safe from this, by virtue of having no knees!

I have cats, but have heard that the dogs do quite well

Oh good. That is what I am hoping. We used to have a cat with a trick knee. but I could usually pop it back in for him. I have a cat now as well as the dog, and he is not sure why his friend is so boring and won't play.

Never had a dog but have friend who has two rescued ex racing greyhounds and one of them had this and is doing ok about 10 months on now and seems lively to me !
Always been an cat and dog lover but too unsteady on feet now for either - share vicariously in yours and volgivagants and others !

From my reading, it looks as if the operation is fairly routine. They have to rest a lot after for about 2 months. That should not be a problem for my Hazel, she is a real sofa dog.

Greyhounds tend to like to lie around the house too, don't they? I also had a friend who did the race dog rescue. His dogs were so sweet. The softest ears ever!

Yes these two greyhounds have two modes - streaking like the wind on walks and lazing on the sofa the entire rest of the time !

I mean, of course the dogs had soft ears! Not my friend. I never felt his!

Of course I didn't think otherwise ;D

though given you are a woman with a thing for the back of Archie's knees we should assume nothing...
