Favorite Words

Was wondering if anyone out there had favorite words, based not on meaning, but simply on sound and mouth-feel.

I like these:

Traduce

Crepuscular

Spitoon

Absinthe

Dipthong

(See, nothing to do with meaning!)

serendipity

reciprocity

baltic

dreich

fuck

(Hmmm, lots of "c" sounds there....)

Couple of gaelic ones:

iseanan (eeshanan - chicks)

dileas (jeelus - faithful)

ETA Absinthe is a lovely word. It makes my nose go funny when I say it.

Good. That is just what I meant. (Although your words are all pleasanter in meaning than mine were. Traduce is an awful thing to do, and spitoons -- yuck!)

You sure? Dreich means cold, wet and miserable. And baltic, in this part of the world, is shorthand for freezing!

Spitoon is definitely yuck though ;)

I had to look up Umbellifer. Wikipedia illustrated with a picture of queen anne's lace. That is a flower I love. my child hood yard was full of it.

And you are right, umbellifer has a really good sound.

Well there you go. Now we have both learned something. I have never heard of Queen Anne's Lace. I know it as cow parsley! Your name is much nicer.

Umbellifer is a lovely word because it sounds like it has been mis-pronounced and turned into something else :)

Yes! Good ones. Those almost make a poem or story on their own.

I love the sound of Horatio Hornblower too.

So sorry you watched Retribution and got sad. I wish Archie could have stayed with Horatio forever. (In my fiction he never dies -- or at least not until he's very old.)
