Another argument against guns

http://gothamist.com/2013/08/27/connecticut_man_attempts_to_shoot_r.php

My Grandpappy used to hunt squirrels with a brown bess. But that was a bad idea too. Leaving aside mistreatment of animals, and the stupidity of discharging a firearm near other people-- this can happen!

I'm sure I've told you this before....my father shot himself through the foot with a .22 rifle. He was trying to open a window to shoot at a seal or a cormorant (can't remember which) and when he pulled the latch his trigger finger twitched and he shot himself instead. The muzzle of the rifle was actually resting on his foot at the time, but miraculously the bullet missed ever bone and lodged in the floor boards. The doctor swore he had no idea such a thing was possible. I suspect whisky may have been involved.

Can't resist a LOL.

I really should have taken up shooting; always had a good eye for it. I did laser clay pigeon shooting on holiday and amazed the family with my prowess. Long sightedness helps sometimes...

Believe me, I bet you didn't LOL as much as my mother did. She said it served him bloody well right for shooting animals!

MANY years ago, Hubby did target shooting with a gun club. All the wives and kids were in the picnic area on the other side of the club, away from the range. Then two of the guys came to tell me my husband had put his arm down by his side and his gun had accidentally discharged and he was really fine but they were taking him to the ER. He'd accidentally shot himself in the toe. Luckily he missed the bone, but it hurt like crazy and was a long time healing. And I didn't drive at that time, and we lived in the BOONIES. I couldn't go food shopping or to church or even take the rubbish to the dump! Our friends took turns helping me until it healed enough for him to drive again!!

the only time I handled a firearm was at a fairground - I missed the target and shot the goldfish!

It's always been the mistreatment of animals that actually makes me object to gun ownership, but according to family lore, my great-grandfather, who was a psychologist, died from an accidental gunshot when a gun he'd taken away from a patient and put in the pocket of his coat went off. Yeah, not smart to have these things around in 99% of cases...
